Kim Schouten, President
Denver Chapter EWI

My Dear Ladies,

Thanks to all of you who attended our meeting last month at Mt. Vernon Country Club because you were the reason it was such a great night and grand celebration of the Chapter. Each person there spoke about her firm and about the work she is doing for the Denver Chapter. Special thanks go to Cindy Kent, Danita Jones, and Cherie Hogue for their in-depth presentations on A la Carte Gifts & Baskets, Send Out Cards, and Citygroup Diners Club. I also want to thank all our Officers, Directors, and Committee Chairs -- this year's and next year's -- for their service above and beyond the call of duty. A special thank you goes to our past presidents, many of whom made the trek up the hill to join us.

Over the past eleven months I have written to you, usually filling you in on what the Denver Chapter is doing and who is doing it. Now it is time for me to ask you -- simply as a member of this organization -- to take on an important task: Come to our Ways & Means fundraiser on Saturday, September 13...bring guests. The more people who attend this evening of Music & Mystery -- Dance with the Stars, the more we will have to add to our fund for charitable outreach programs.

At our August meeting you heard from Diana Steverson, Chair of B/C/DP & ASIST, and Terri Carrigan, Chair of Philanthropy and Literacy, about the truly meaningful programs the Denver Chapter supports. We provide college scholarships to students who wish to return to the academic arena. We support literacy programs at inner-city school Barrett Elementary. The students we serve through these programs are not likely to receive support from any similar program. In many ways we are providing a unique service, and it has made a genuine and lasting impact on the lives of hundreds of students over the years. I remain humbled by how a group such as ours, made up of fewer than one hundred middle-class working women, can do so much for our community. I commend all of you for your focus, devotion, and consistency.

And, Ladies, if I may make one more request, please think about whom among your colleagues and friends might be good prospects for joining the Denver Chapter of EWI. The economic downturn has begun to take a toll on our membership numbers, which will likely continue into 2009. Companies looking for ways to cut expenses often look first at professional associations. EWI may be one of the best bargains in town, but we have still lost several member companies to the cost-cutting axe. Your membership in this organization should have a value to you and to your firm, and I hope you will keep your executive educated about that value. And tell your friends. Even if they don't know it yet, EWI could be just the thing they have been looking for.

I will see you and your friends, family, colleagues on Saturday, September 13, at the El Jebel Shrine. We promise you a wonderful evening for a cause that is dear to our hearts.

My very best to you,

Kim Schouten, President
Denver EWI
